Color Positive was created out of the idea that we not only need to showcase Black talent on its own, but help facilitate growth of new artists for the community at large. Black people and Black artists alike have always had a specific relationship with the art and commerce industry. Focus is needed to help bridge this wide divide because it is not enough to merely exist in an industry where so many fresh voices can thrive. Additionally being a source for so much pop culture, art and music, we must aggressively push past these undisclosed notions that a range of Black artist-professionals aren’t fit for creating editorial covers, shooting brand campaigns, making blockbuster films, and directing commercials.

2018 was a year of many firsts for not only Black photographers and directors, but historic publications and institutions alike.  We are so far behind in creating new work by not choosing to seek out this talent which is so underrepresented behind the lens. This site will allow you to keep up with the incredible range of Black artists, professional and working, that create at the highest levels. The roster is exceptional and the artists collaborate but also get paid to do what they do. The roster also provides an incredible source for mentorship and guidance to the youth. I want to be transparent and need you to know this site is in the beginning stages. We will take steps together. We will also help build our community because our generation knows that we must invest in our future. It will grow because we will choose to use and cultivate a now viable platform for recognizing and building talent from a culture that not only provides so much entertainment but also often sets the ever-moving bar for what that is.
